Did your life begin at 40 or has it all been downhill since?

Happy birthday!

10 years and you'll be 50. There's food for thought.

Re: 40 Today
Well Dave that metabolism that helped you out in your 20s and 30s varnishes (like an old oak table), you'll see the fat start to roll on. The hair will get greyer and greyer until it resembles the colour of a lovable woodland creature. You'll moan more about the crap music today's kids listen to. Plus you'll spend more weekends at home drinking 'saving money' than going out on the piss- an idea which would've been preposterous in your out on the town and larging it up 20s and 30s...

Happy Birthday Big Dave.

According to WHO you should stop wearing jeans as of today.

You have already had some of your greatest experiences but more are yet to come. You may not be able to do things as quickly or as often as you used to but that doesn't mean you stop trying or looking for new opportunities.

Older and wiser, my arse!

40 is no different to your mid - late 30s. It's only when hit your mid 40s that you start to feel different.
I was devastated about hitting 40 but now I'm 50 which didn't bother me as much.
50 feels like 40 should have so enjoy your 40s.

Happy Birthday.

Happy birthday Dave. Just remember that you're as old as the woman you feel and getting older is better than the alternative...

Happy Birthday Dave.

What 13BR said is spot on. 40 is just another year. Mid 40's bits start to break and fall off, I started to feel mortal for the first time. As long as you get through that, I'll be 50 next birthday, then it gets better again.

Re: 40 Today
When I turned 40 I remember thinking that I was the same age as My Dad when I was born and by the time I was already old enough to have memories of him he already had heart issues, my Mum had cancer and they both seemed quite old already.

Just got me thinking that the next 10 years are really important in looking after ourselves and preparing ourselves for the next stage in our lives, because physically it doesnt get any better.

As Sxboy said, I think its the first time you really question your own mortality...
